- Remember the basic fact that your PC is outdated because it
- never had the compute power required, under PC constraints, to
- run a decent GUI at any time. Amigas use a more efficient
- software base that has as its first achievement a comfortable
- user interaction.

- (used prices)
- Spend either $200 for A500+C=1080 monitor or
- $650 for A1200+C=1950/1960 monitor or
- $600 for A3000, use your VGA monitor

- All amigas have similar _basic_ architecture, the main
- difference being what guts are in the built-in display
- and of course generational differences between A2000 and
- the A1200,A3000,and A4000. (32-bit data paths in the latter 3).
-
- Processor speed of the 030/25MHz in the A3000 is adequate for
- anything you're likely to do soon. It is also easy to expand
- (pop a 3.5" LP scsi drive inside... plug a scsi box to the outside,
- ... also graphics cards). The A3000 also includes a built-in
- scan doubler, which allows the peculiar amiga screens to be
- displayed on standard VGA monitors. This is a $200 add-on for
- the A4000.
-
- Of course, the A3000s are only available used. A 6MB memory
- system is adequate until you start image manipulations and
- graphics card usage.
-
- The A1200 is fine but it needs a 2.5" drive in standard config
- and is slower with standard functions (faster in some graphics
- functions) than the A3000. Of course it can be accelerated,
- etc. but that stuff gets expensive.
-
- Claims that AGA makes all preceding amigas obsolete are completely
- untrue, only relevant in the european game-player clique.
